Humanure Compost Toilets

Humanure Compost Toilets

DIY Homesteader Festival Workshop:

Humanure Compost Toilets

If you want to learn how to deal with your own crap (literally!) then this workshop is for you. Aiden Enns will show you how to turn human “waste” into valuable compost. This is the low-tech “bucket method”; you’ll help build a snazzy box with a toilet seat as a lid. Aiden will provide info on creating, maintaining and harvesting “humanure.” Participants will help assemble a pre-cut plywood toilet with legs, hinges, and lid – this toilet will be given away to one workshop participant through a draw! (may not be exactly as shown here)

Hands-on: Some audience members will have an opportunity to help build a humanure compost toilet.

Accessibility: This workshop takes place in an outdoor shelter on grass or pine-needle forest floor (not as pokey as it sounds). We can have a desk and chair available at the workshop space upon request in the event it is not accessible for a participant to sit on the ground or on a hay bale.
