Cheesemaking

DIY Homesteader Festival Workshop:

Cheesemaking

There’s cheese. And then there’s home-made cheese. Enough said. Join Rachel Isaak and Dustin Peltier of Loaf and Honey, makers of Prairie Heritage Cheese, for a hands-on cheesemaking experience. Rachel & Dustin will share about their journey of becoming raw milk cheese-makers and guide you through making farmstead cheeses, pressed cheese, and yogurt. They will also explain how to make aged cheeses and cover starter cultures and cheese molds. This workshop will not use raw milk, but will cover how to do so.

Hands-on: Participants will have opportunities to work together to help make the various kinds of cheeses being taught in the workshop, either at their own work stations, or up at the teacher work station.

Accessibility: This workshop takes place in a garage-like shelter with a concrete floor. Participants will be at work stations with chair or stool seating. There will be at least one space in the front row with priority seating for any attendees using a wheelchair.
